I woke up on the wrong side of the bed
Again, I woke up on the wrong side of the bed. I say again as this has happened before. You know this cliché. Feeling a little agitated about the day before or anxious about how today will play out. You have already anticipated what’s going to happen anyhow, and your response will be? Now you have all day to stew, making yourself and those around you miserable.
Having a miserable day is bad enough, but deliberately beginning the day this way is not healthy. When I feel like “I woke up on the wrong side of the bed, it is time to nip it in the bud. We have the power to overcome our circumstances so why have the notion you need to allow yourself to feel agitated all day for something which has not occurred yet and may not happen the way you expected.
You have the ability to control your thoughts
The choices we make are predetermined thoughts; let me say that again. Sometimes we make choices on a realization of what our mind is telling us of the worst possible outcome. Therefore, the choices we make are predetermined by the thoughts we contemplate, in which we expect to feel from what our mind is telling us. Everything we say or do is determined by our thoughts and the ones we choose to act on.
This is narrow minded thinking. There is a better way. Enthusiasm and optimism are also a choice. Now imagine how it would feel if you went through your day with a positive outlook instead of looking at the worst possible situation. Choose to be enthusiastic when you get out of bed. Let your attitude be radiant and shine on others. Be reflective of your own optimism.
“Abe Lincoln” once said, “People are just as happy as they make up their minds to be.” Have you decided to be happy? I have read some researchers estimate that as many as 40% to 50% of a person’s capacity for happiness may be genetically predetermined, but not entirely predetermined. There are a few people who chose to be miserable and blame it on how they were raised, the environment they grew up in, and on and on and on. They simply have determined they cannot be happy and therefore have made the choice not to be. So, you see, their thoughts have led them to make a choice.
Change your thoughts and you will inherently make better choices. In the Bible, Paul says, “Do not conform to the behaviors of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.” (Romans 12:2)
I have on many occasions asked God to change the way I think about situations where I believed a different perspective would make me happier, healthier and feel better about my choices. In addition, I have noticed that over time, many of life’s lessons have taught me to think differently. I spend a lot of time researching time and goal management. To put it into perspective the relationship between the way choices are made and when the thought patterns we possess are aligned with the goals we think about.
Successful people align their goals and become efficient with time management due to their thought patterns. Taking captive our thoughts to align them with our desired character and make choices from that will determine the level of happiness we experience.
I highly recommend “Who Moved My Cheese” written by Spencer Johnson, MD. This book is thoughtfully and creatively written about change. https://amzn.to/4kcyvzx
The choice is yours, “get out of the wrong side of the bed” or not
Perhaps you are familiar with Alcoholics Anonymous, where recovering alcoholics have clearly made a decision not to drink alcohol anymore. To live sober and free, one day at a time. At one time, they may have made many unwise choices and lived through enduring consequences that have ruined many people’s lives, including their own.
However, through AA, they now have changed their thought pattern and are living sober and free, all because of changing the way they think and making different choices. A choice, aligned with their desired true character in which they have decided to be.
All the success that brings people to make informed, life-changing decisions and all those who make a conscious effort to observe their thoughts will soon make better decisions with more clarity shown by the simple technique Paul taught us in the Bible.
I challenge you today not tomorrow: make the choice to be happy. Happiness comes once in a lifetime friend, and that day is today, not when we arrive at our destination. So therefore, don’t you dare worry about the Jones; rather choose your destiny and take heed too what old Abe said. Choose to be happy. Choose to get out of bed enthusiastic about the day.
