Repentance

Repentance

Repentance

Is repentance the same as forgiveness? I asked myself as I prayed before going to bed. Of course, I knew right away it’s not the same. Repentance is a promise you will no longer sin again. Forgiveness on the other hand involves another person who has upset or angered you, resulting in resentment.

Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hollowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever, amen… Matthew 6:9-13

Therefore, we must forgive others if we want to be forgiven too. We are forgiven first as Jesus has already atoned us of our sinful nature. However, we must truly be remorseful and sin no more.

Acts of Forgiveness

  • Forgive others
  • Forgive yourself
  • Let Go
  • Learn from the sin

Once again, I thought, what if I repent and sin again. You may wonder about the same thing. What I learned is this is a daily regimen. At least for myself. We’re prone to sin and make mistakes. So how can you truly move on if you keep making the same mistake over and over again? Until we learn not to make the same mistakes, we will continually need to atone for our sins. The Bible is clear, just as the Israelites kept going around that same mountain for 40 years before entering the promise land. By that time, the promised land could be seen. Moses had led them across the Red Sea to Mount Sinai where he died at the age of 120. From there, Joshua led the Israelites to the promise Land.
