The First Candle of Advent – Hope

The First Candle of Advent – Hope

The first week of advent is hope. In anticipation of the Messiah to come as predicted years ago through the word God through His Prophets. The first candle of advent – hope. The virgin Mary was visit by an angel and said good news favored woman, you’ll give birth to the Messiah and call Him Immanuel, Jesus. God’s son. Mary asked how could this happen. The angel replied how the Holy Spirit would come upon her.

The angel had also visited Joseph who was to be married to Mary. In a dream he was visited again to let Joseph to go ahead and marry her. Now over two thousand years later we profess the hope of Jesus in celebration of baby Jesus who would come into this world and teach us to forgive us of our transgressions and lead us to eternal life. And Jesus will come again.

Just like all those years ago when people were living in a time of dictatorship and uncertainty, taxed unfairly, and turmoil. In many ways this is the world we live in now. While there is a lot to be thankful for and is why we put our hope in Jesus. We know He will come again.

This Christmas season let’s reflect upon how the unrest of the world was then, and what the world is like today as we celebrate Jesus.
