Traveling through the Appalachian Mountains
Many road trips through God’s world will take your breath away. It is not often we drive more than a few hundred miles, but when we do it is usually traveling through the Appalachian mountains where you’ll find the most stunning views.
An unexpected twist came known to us as the “tail of the Dragon”, this stretch of US -129 has 318 curves in 11 miles of gorgeous views along the route. There are 104 pull offs you can stop and capture the beauty. The pull offs are mostly allow faster vehicles to pass. So be careful as sports cars and motorcyclists are coming around every bend. For most, it is the road itself that is the attraction. Take your eyes off the road, may result in a disaster. Traveling along US-129 certainly is a new perspective of going around the mountain again and again… For more information, and to see all the winding roads beforehand: https://tailofthedragon.com/
Our cabin in Bryson City, North Carolina. The cabin boasted 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a full kitchen and ding area, and a spacious living area with a vaulted ceiling and a stone fireplace(gas). The wraparound deck with Breathtaking views on 3, yes 3 sides with rocking chairs, table for 4 and a hot-tub. Perfect for a lazy afternoon, or morning with a perfect blend of coffee to relax after traveling through the Appalachian Mountains. Our gracious host website:

During our stay in North Carolina we visited the Biltmore Estate in Ashville, North Carolina. Upon driving through the grand entrance we drove another 15 minutes to the parking lot where we then accessed a trolly to get us to the front door of the estate. We visited the first 2 floors with an interactive radio for us to explore each room imagining what it must of been like when the Vanderbilts lived there. After our tour we enjoyed a late lunch at the food court before getting back on the trolly to our car. From there we enjoyed driving through the 8000 acres of farmland, gardens and woods covering the impressive view of mountainous landscapes. If you haven’t been, I would suggest going. Expect to be there most of the day.
The morning was a foggy wet mist, it had rained all night. Was our drive going to be rainy and not able to get out of the car to enjoy the gorgeous views painted by God I asked. Prayers answered and we began our journey on the Blue Ridge parkway in Cherokee, North Carolina before heading north. Driving for only an hour or so before the parkway was closed due to hurricane Helene. By far one of my favorite excursions of the Appalachians mountains. Twists and turns but not frightening either it is a very comfortable and enjoyable ride. Every couple miles or so you may want to pull off one of the many overlooks to view the majestic mountainside, each stop different than the last. The drive itself was in fact not busy or feel rushed, just the windows down taking in the fresh mountain air. There are overnight accommodations along the way, places to eat and endless attractions along your way. Next time I plan to stay at one of the many lodges or cabins along the 469 mile parkway
